Dead Bolt

I thought about putting a dead
bolt on all the doors of the home
Doing my kids a huge favor by
keeping them locked in from humans
their innocence kept in and grown
into mature little angels of peace
Their freedom to be students though
always comes back like instant soup
How can I protect them, watch them,
guide them and teach them humanity
The kangaroo has the pouch, the bird
has its next- other animals have it set
My babies though- this is a lot
of time and work for me and many parents
I’m starting to think that the
dead bolt isn’t looking too bad

Better Pepper

Walking around an event you see
a multitude of personalities
The sugar cubes that everyone
wants to suck like a sucker
Fresh oreganos who still don’t know
many other spices yet
onion powder bringing more
flavor than many could ask for
Garlic powder coming on sometimes
too strong with no inhibitions
Cinnamon spice that are an aroma
of sultry sexiness and positivity
All too common salt where they’re
like everyone else but hidden
Also, the better pepper in a league
of their own making you sneeze when huge
A mixture of them is nice to
have every now and then
Adds a lot of flavor to ones life
with a sometimes distasteful course

Great Together

I doubt any potato chip will
tamper with salsa
The dirt will argue with the
clouds giving the rain
The soap touching the skin
giving us softness
The car with the tires
because it wouldn’t go
The paper to the pen or
there’d be no words
Nope, this makes no sense
they need each other
compliment each other
and do great together

Crickets Still Sing

Mom wanted me to be a beauty queen
I had four older brothers
Dad wanted me to date the day I turned thirty
I twirl a baton at the best carnivals across the globe
Grandma likes my singing and thinks I have a future
I make records and CDs crack at the sound of me walking
I did a job for my neighbor out of kindness
Now she's spreading the word I'm the best at what I do
Preparing for my day choosing what to wear takes awhile
Doing everything for everyone else while crickets still sing
